I begin with weight. Linen that still remembers the loom. Saffron that stains a fingertip. Stone that keeps the morning after the sun has moved. Color, for me, is food and flare at once. I set objects where chapel light would fall, even when the room is only a conservatory. A lemon leaf in the wrong place is often the whole sentence. I want you to feel that you could pick the still up, and that it would have a temperature.
